November featured girl gamer of the month!

So I was talking to Nicole the other day, we were just chatting and I got curious so I asked her a few questions and this was how it went.

Apparently Nicole has a crush on some guy who works on Yellowcab, or probably likes Yellowcab, I'm not quite sure about his. I asked her what's up with the guy, why does he like him. She particularly said that the Yellowcab was handsome, so I don't know really what Nicole wants, lol xD

Our interview was quite fast because we had to hurry up or her globe tattoo will get disconnected haha! So I went in and fired away with my questions.

Crystal Nicole Hornilla
27 yea.. 18 years old

No really, she's only 18. Don't get fooled by her height.

Nicole started playing just last year, according to her: "natuwa lang ako sa ghost mode nila .. tapos un, nagsunod sunod na .. hanggang sa naging Clan Master na rin nung clan ..".

Lyka, the Clan Master of Femme Fetale had to quit because of real life stuff, she got too busy she couldn't take care of the clan anymore. Her first choice was Nicole, and Nicole gladly took over as Clan Master. So, makes you wonder, why would a clan master of an all girl team transfer to M.A.T. Online? When asked she told me: "nagPM po sakin si ate bianca nun. na naghahanap daw ung GamePad ng GIrl Players (jejemon lol!) den dun na ,, binigay po sakin ni ate bianx ung link ng Forums ..."

Thank you Bianca, for recruiting Nicole into M.A.T. Online :)

Unfortunately, most of the members of her clan, Femme Fetale, is busy with real life and wasn't able to transfer to M.A.T. Online, good thing about this is Marjfei and Lyn did transfer. Wuhoo! Still, I wasn't content with her answer, I just had to ask, what's in M.A.T. Online that wasn't on the other game. What really made her transfer and stay here? She said: "actually hindi ung laro ang nagus2han ko sa MAT, the way kung pano pakitunguhan ng mga GM's at FMs ung mga players, un ang nagus2han ko .." then she asked if I was allowed to give her a free SVD sniper rifle, tsk. Nah, she didn't, I'm just kidding.

Seems like Nicole enjoys the community that we have here in M.A.T. Online, but my question is, why wasn't she present during the tournament in RSolomon Internet Cafe? o_o strike 2 Nicole, tsk!

Femme Fetale already merged with Bianca's clan, G3. Their plan is to be together in this clan and make it stronger as time goes by. Nicole's choice is being a sniper, and you know what they say about snipers, hahaha! xD

When I asked her if she had any final words, this is what she said: "quote: wag mong pilitin ang ayaw, baka pumayag" If you know what it means, I'm all ears.

Well there you have it folks, Nicole of G3. Who's still having problems with internet connection at the moment so you won't see her that much in-game.

If you're curious as to what Nicole looks like, you may ask her for her pic in the forums.

First LAN cafe tournament of M.A.T. Online

Thank you to all those who attended the first ever internet cafe tournament of M.A.T. Online held in RSolomon Internet Cafe. Sorry we were late, we got lost a bit. Don't worry, next time we have a tournament here, we'll be there early!

Congratulations to the winners!
Open Category:
LAQS - champions!
Complex Gaming - first runner up!

Ladies Category:
G-3 team 1 - champions!
G-3 team 2 - first runner up!

Kid's Category:
Well, they didn't really have a team name, but congratulation to them!

The place was packed with several gamers from different places, most of them were familiar faces but there were new players who registered. Magnum facilitated the open category, while me and Gores watched the ladies category. The first match between the Daughters of Ares and G-3 team 2 was really really close. The first round was normal, like any ordinary tournament match. Then Sharin, one of the Daughters of Ares suddenly shouted due to I-don't-know-what and made a chain reaction to the ladies playing so the second and third round was filled with shouts and trash talks! There were moments were me and Mrs. Catapuls would just cover our ears, Sharin's shout was deafening lol xD The match was really close, it was a tie but G-3 team 2 won the toss coin so they picked blue team. I have to admit, being the red team is hard, you have to go on the offense because if you don't you'll lose the round. It came to a last 1 last 1 round and G-3 team 2 was able to defend the bomb sites well so they won. Finals match was between G-3 team 1 and team 2, we have to admit G-3 team 1 was too good for their team 2 haha! With Bianca on the team, together with MICAH, LadyMarshall, Micaell and Marjfei, they owned team 2 xD Well G-3 took both first and second place so congratulations to them!

After the ladies tournament, we continued on with the open category. Magnum was able to finish off the preliminaries so we were already on the semi finals stage. Complex Gaming had to fight the other CG group, but they didn't have a choice on the matter. Paris was MIA, too bad. It was fun watching him play during tournaments. I don't know which was team 1 and which was team 2, but the team who won was the one with Mekia and Mat. Suspect and LAQS fought for a place in the finals, it was a close match. It's fun to watch Elgee's team, they're the definition of competitive players. All the seriousness of the match got to me and watching the match has made me tense too, lol xD. LAQS won over Suspect and we move on to the finals. It was between LAQS and CG, the first round was taken by CG. But after a few talks and changes on strategy, LAQS won the second and third round making them the champions. Congratulations!

The match ended at around 12MN and I went straight home haha, I had to wake up early for the kids match the next day.

So Sunday came and I went back to RSolomon Cafe, the shop was full so we had to wait before we could start the match. As I've said the kid's team didn't have a name so we just went on to the match. Sampras' kid's team was the one I was watching, they have practiced for this match, they had positions they were covering. Nympha, the 10 years old girl was fun to watch, she knew how to adjust to certain situations. Like if she's getting bombed everytime on a camp spot, she moves. If the enemy is camping on a certain place, she bombs that place everytime she respawns. For a 10 year old girl, she was owning everyone.

Congratulations to everyone who won!

I didn't have my digicam with me, pictures are uploaded to Bianca's and Sampras' facebook accounts. :)

Here comes the phantoms!

Get it here!
Phantom Pack Manual Patch Download

The Phantom Mode Expansion Pack offers lots of new costumes, weapons and the new Phantom Mode!

This mode is much like the bomb match mode, only sneakier. The read team gets to be the phantoms, wherein they can only use melee weapons but are completely invisible. Running will make them a bit visible but will still be very hard to aim at. The blue team needs to focus and keep their eyes open if they want to stop the phantoms from blowing up the base.

So what are you waiting for! Download it now and be ready for it this Monday, October 18, 2010!

M.A.T. Online - Phantom Expansion Pack is an optional pre-download for the update this coming Oct 18, 2010 12PM. The file is currently "Password Protected". Here's a quick guide on how you can install the game:

Run the MAT Online - Phantom Expansion Pack, then click "OK" button.

Take note of the message in the pop up window. DO NOT INSTALL THE EXPANSION PACK BEFORE OCTOBER 18, 2010 or you won't be able to play.

2.  Then click the "Setup" button.

3. This is a password protected program, the password will be posted in the forums, website and fan page of MAT Online on October 18, 2010.

4.Then wait for it to be extracted.

5. Click "Next" button to start the installation.

6. Then choose a corresponding folder where you wish to save the file. And then click the "install" button. It may take a while to install the game depending on the speed of your PC.

7. Find and open the MAT Online shortcut located on your desktop or in the Start Menu.

Otaku Expo Reload aftermath

Otaku (おたく / オタク?) (oh-tah-kooh) is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, or video games.

Last October 8, 9 and 10, M.A.T. Online joined the Otaku Expo Reload which was held at SM Megamall, Megatrade Hall 1. We actually planned on having more computers but we only got 30. But it was enough to cover our area and have extra space for players to mingle. We had the nerf shootout for free, turns out it was harder to dodge than we thought. There were a few who were able to dodge five bullets from the nerf gun and they got a M.A.T. T-shirt! Probably the most memorable thing that happened during the three day event was the JNC kid's team vs the GMs! Well we got owned by the kids, but it was fun!

We had lots of competitions and there were four teams who joined each competition. Last Friday, we did the bomb match and the sniper match tournament. The bomb match tournament finals was really close, but team Cristal was able to outwit their enemies and win the last round. Team Silvercor had it easy on the finals match and Janbel was even running around without weapons hoping to kill his enemies with his fists, I think he was able to get one. The next day, there were more people and more cosplayers who registered on the M.A.T. Online booth. I kinda had a hard time looking for the teams who were supposed to battle so I had to announce them on stage. Complex Gaming, with a lot of cursing thrown by Paris, won the bomb match tournament. And of course, team Cristal got the sniper match easy. Sunday was the most interesting day of the three. There was only one kids team who came, (probably because of the 100P entrance fee for the Otaku Expo Reload event xD), so we decided to fight them. GM Cute, GM Magnum, GM Seahorse Gores, Zely and me teamed up to battle the kids. Lots of trashtalks were thrown to GM Magnum, like Pakwan (I'm not sure why they call him that haha). After much trashtalks and unnecessary shouts, the kids owned us and won. The G-3 bullied the poor girls who joined the tournament, haha! But they sure had fun! Oh yes, they were real girls and they were really good! I'll post pics as soon as I have uploaded them. :)

The whole event was tiring but fun, I saw a lot of cosplayers, some of them were cute, some sexy, some scary and most of them are funny xD. In our country, cosplaying has become a very popular hobby amongst teens. Even kids (who look like they're only 12) dress up as sexy anime characters, which seems like kinda inappropriate already. Scary thing about this is during anime/cosplay conventions, you'd see two types of attendees, one are those normal kids and adults who just like to have fun, take pictures, buy stuff and admire the cosplayers. The other one are those scary, perverts who you'd see staring at girls, or taking photographs with that expression on their faces haha! eww! Anyway, cosplaying is not about them, it's a hobby, just like everything else that people do, computer games, sports, cross-stitching and such. And just like any other hobby, it's about having fun!

Cosplay Mania!

If you're not into cosplaying, you'd find it rather weird, seeing people wear a-not-so-normal-attire. Makes you wonder what they've eaten or why they're doing it. Well, it's called cosplaying! People dress up as their favorite anime character, some even try to act like 'em too! Some do it for the cosplay tournament and some do it for fun.

M.A.T. Online did a freeplay event inside cosmania, it was nice to see a lot of people walking by dressed up as Taiga from Toradora. That masked guy from Naruto, what's he called again? Hmm... Madara! I think he's the most popular cosplay character, I've seen like hundreds of him haha.

Lots of cosplayers and cosplay fanatics went in and tried out M.A.T Online, some of them were too shy to try out the game and just got the posters and installers and told us they'll try it at home. What's nice about this is, a lot of female gamers were curious about the game and some of them actually tried it. I asked them how it was and they said it was exciting to play. I told them that M.A.T Online has a girl gamer community and they could join it if they wish.

Well that's about it, watch out for M.A.T Online this coming weekend in Otaku Expo Reload!

Featured Lady Gamer of the Month: Bianca of G-3

G3 - Girls, Guns, Glory
upper right picture, left to right:
MICAH, Bianca, LadyMarshall, Marjfei, Micaell
For the month of October, our featured girl gamer is none other than Bianca!

Bianca plays MMOFPS games since 2007. That's where he met her husband Elgee who was team FG (Fairview Gaming). At some point in 2009 FG and HoA (Horsemen of Apocalypse) merged and FG.HoA was formed. But due to some circumstances, Elgee and Bianca had to leave the group and this was when Cristal was formed.

Bianca: It came from one of the weed menus in Amsterdam, it's description in the menu says "Very stoned" (answer when asked where "Cristal" was from)

Bianca told me that what encouraged her to play is her husband Elgee but what inspired her to form an all girl group was when she saw the SK Ladies (Schoet Kommando), the all girl team of the "SK Gaming" clan which was based on Germany. It made her think about forming an all girl group and that was when Cristal Ladies was formed.

Bianca: The first members of Cristal Ladies are: LadyMarshaLL, MICAH, Micaell, Marjfei, BIANCA

Lucky for us M.A.T players, Bianca had decided to team up with her friends from different FPS games and create a team called; G3 - Girls, Guns, Glory. For sure they'd be the center of attention, FPS games having more male gamers than female, I asked her what her plan would be when that happens.

Bianca: Most of us girls in the team are already taken, so we won't really pay much attention to the boys. I also told them not to let fame get into their heads, we should be a team, we're all equal and we shouldn't envy each other.

I guess having much experience on the MMOFPS community helps a lot in maintaining an all girl team.

Along with Lyka of Femme Fatale, Bianca will lead the all girl group, G3. Together with some of the famous girl FPS gamers around; LadyMarshaLL, MICAH, Micaell, Marjfei, and Nicole, they plan to dominate M.A.T. Online.

I've also asked her the secrets of how to be great in playing FPS and here's what she had to say about it:

Bianca: Aside from having my Razer Salmosa, one should also have dedication and eagerness to learn. You also need to know how to accept criticisms and take from it the fact that you can still improve. Also no matter happens, wag dapat yayabang at wag aabot sa ulo ang fame. Wag din seryosohin masyado ang game, you need to enjoy playing. Also practice and long hours of playing makes perfect.

Her favorite gun is the G36K, the default rifle in M.A.T. Online, but she's also an AK47 user. I've asked her the difference between the two, when does she use an AK47 and why G36K is her favorite.

Bianca: The AK47 is strong enough to kill with 3 bullets, even though it has a strong recoil, it won't matter if it's close range. G36K users will lose at close range combat against the AK47. But for long range the G36K is better, it has low recoil and easier to use.

Bianca also believes that being a lady is an attitude. Catch her playing everyday in M.A.T. Online http://mat.com.ph and don't be fooled, keep your guard up or she'll surely frag you before you can say "Hi, ctc?"

The Grand Launch

It was a pandemonium. It was cramped, but it was definitely fun.

M.A.T. Online's first big event, The Grand Launch, was held in SM North EDSA Annex, Cyberzone. Our call time was 8:00AM but I kinda overslept and arrived at around 9:30AM, and I have a perfectly good reason why I'm late! The night before, we stayed up until 5:00AM at the mall. We needed to make sure everything was okay, the net connection, the computers, stage shows, tournaments and everything else that happened in the event. Stonefree and Chicosci, check! Hosts Sam YG and Mia Bayuga, check! I was lucky to have three hours of sleep, most of us only had one, some didn't get any. xD

So, GM Gores was the first to arrive there since we didn't ask her to help during the ingress. Being a girl and all and her home area is not the kind of place you would wanna walk through alone at night, we decided that she should go home early and just get to the mall as early as possible. 10 of the computers were still missing monitor cables, -_-" we thought it would be replaced before the mall opens but it didn't. Too bad, more players would have been able to test out the game if it weren't for the missing monitor cables.

10:00AM, the mall opened, we were hoping that a lot of players would come but we didn't expect them to arrive that early! There were already like, 50 players lined up as early as 10:05AM! The bomb match tournament was filled up as early as 10:15AM and players were asking if they could still join. We had a talk about this during one of our meetings and we decided that if more players were to come, we would accommodate 16 teams instead of eight, so we did. Sniper match got full next and there were four kiddies team who joined. Unfortunately, the all girl tournament got dissolved because there were only two teams willing to join.

Sniper match started after Stonefree rocked the stage, it was around 12:30PM. Sorry if I can't remember the teams who joined but I do remember the first and second place winners. Check-in-joy got second place and was awarded five t-shirts! Cubao Sharpshooterz won and got P2,500 cash and five t-shirts. They were young but they were really good players! Next match was the bomb match tournament, we didn't get to finish it due to lack of time and conflict and schedules. Apologies to all who were inconvenienced :( details will be posted in the forums. Next was the north vs south championship between Complex Gaming and LAQS. This was the main event of the night and most of the people went around the teams to watch the epic battle between the north and the south. Both teams were good, they had a really solid team work, and they keep communications between them tight. Everyone knows what everyone is doing, it was really exciting to watch. I got to learn a few tricks on how to aim, where to aim and some good spots to defend thanks to them. It was a best of three bomb match and LAQS went home with P10,000 and five t-shirts!

We also did raffles and congrats to the luckiest kid of the event, the winner of the XBOX 360 with Halo: Reach! Everyone wanted that XBOX 360, even the employees of Gamepad Interactive wanted it, too bad we can't join the raffle. Well, congrats to Patrick! Hope you put that into good use and don't forget your studies or maybe if you could just give it to me... Just kidding.

The event ended at around 9:00PM, it was a huge success and gamers are happy and all the staff are happy even though we're too tired to celebrate. xD It was our first event and we would like to apologize for anyone we have disappointed. Don't worry, we know our mistakes and the strong points that we made during the event. Next event we will avoid those mistakes and improve on our strong points so that all of the gamers get what they deserve, the best.

Special thanks to AppleBerry for the company, without her, the event wouldn't be as much fun as it is.
